An idle thought, but will the new owners who have rescued the Little Chef roadside cafes continue to assist the Daily Express’s increasingly desperate attempts to shore up circulation? A couple of weeks ago I stopped at one for a cup of coffee (as weak as it ever was) and saw a pile of Expresses at the entrance. They looked like free copies and a lot of others clearly thought so because a handwritten note had been added saying they had to be paid for.
Yesterday, at BHS’s cafe in Ipswich there was a similar pile and my wife picked up a copy and took it to a table but was told she would have to pay 10p. I watched and in the next few minutes three people picked up copies and had 10p added to their bills at the checkout. Inertia selling?
