LA Times bites the hand that ‘starves’ it

The Los Angeles Times has printed a story condemning its owners, Tribune, for cost-cutting and redundancies. “Imagine that happening here?” asks Roy Greenslade. Quite! But I suspect there are some who would very much like to. It is clear that some editors of regional dailies are deeply unhappy about “economies” being forced on them.

As an employe of the Los Angeles Times I am very proud of our Publisher and Editor for putting their careers on the line and saying NO to further downsizing at the newspaper.

Change’s in the way a newspaper does business has to evolve, but there is a limit to cutting the staff.

We have gone through many changes, including cutting staff for fourteen years to keep profits high, but in the process we have lost two-hundred thousand daily readers.

    Enough is enough.
